Preachers Watch What you Preach

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof

Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Of witnesses, according to their testimony they bear; of judges, according to the sentence they pass; of teachers, according to the doctrine they preach; of all men, who by their well or ill speaking, bring death or life to themselves and others. Some, by their tongues, by the too free use of them, or falsehood they utter, are the cause of death to themselves and others; and some, by their silence, or by their prudent speech and prevalent intercession, secure or obtain life for themselves and others; yea, judgment at the last day will proceed according to man’s words,

Mathew 12:37

By thy words thou shall be justified, and by thy words thou shall be condemned

The tongue is the instrument of either a great deal of good, or a great deal of evil; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof; that delight to be talkative; that love to use the tongue, whether in a good or in a bad way, shall accordingly be recompensed; shall enjoy the advantages or disadvantages arising from it.

When you are “called” to ministry it is to serve Gods purpose not our own. Too many Pastors, Preachers, and Prophets are talking out the side of their faces. Too many are more concerned with theatrics to fill coffers at offering and tithe time than feeding the spirit for all times. Too many hear their own words louder than the God they claim to serve.

As clergy regardless of faith we are the only body on this planet that have a mission mandate to teach, preach, and lead according to Gods word. We are the ones that have the ultimate blueprint on how to shepherd and guide our flocks.

We have a mandate for the treatment of the poor; we have a mandate for the treatment of widows and orphans, we have a mandate for the treatment of the sick. We have a guide and a plan for all and I do mean all areas of life.

Somewhere along the line too many Pastors got hoodwinked, lead astray, bamboozled even. Too many somebodies drank the Kool-Aid so to speak. Too many Pastors started to believe the hype.

Somehow, we forgot our place in the body of Christ. We began to isolate ourselves. Pull back from the communities we are a part of. We stopped doing the mission part of the mandate. And for many they even stopped teaching the Word, The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Bible.

Too many have allowed themselves to fall prey to the revisionist history of this country and allow that to supersede the word of God which preceded all. I need you all to hear me clearly on this. Understand this is not about politics, this is about people.

Nowhere in my Bible does God call for a separation of Church and State. As a matter of fact in the Bible the church was the state. In the book of Exodus 18:19-26 we see Moses in conversation with his father-in-law who is giving him a word on how he is to set up a system for fair and impartial justice according to Gods laws. How Moses is to select from his elders those that can hear cause on issues and rule according to God’s laws.

Exodus 18:19-26

19 But hear my words and counsels, and God shall be with thee. Be thou to the people in those things that pertain to God, to bring their words to him: 20 And to shew the people the ceremonies, and the manner of worshipping; and the way wherein they ought to walk, and the work that they ought to do.21 And provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, in whom there is truth, and that hate avarice, and appoint of them rulers of thousands, and of hundreds, and of fifties, and of tens,22  Who may judge the people at all times: and when any great matter soever shall fall out, let them refer it to thee, and let them judge the lesser matters only: that so it may be lighter for thee, the burden being shared out unto others.23 If thou dost this, thou shalt fulfil the commandment of God, and shalt be able to bear his precepts: and all this people shall return to their places with peace.24  And when Moses heard this, he did all things that he had suggested unto him.25 And choosing able men out of all Israel, he appointed them rulers of the people, rulers over thousands, and over hundreds, and over fifties, and over tens.26 And they judged the people at all times: and whatsoever was of greater difficulty they referred to him, and they judged the easier cases only.

Slowly throughout history we have allowed man’s law in the form of the government to strip us of our power and authority afforded to us under God’s law. We have allowed those with little or no regard for God’s law to pollute and then dilute that which we know to be the true laws to merely a self-serving exercise of indulgence and pacification on Sunday mornings that now passes as worship and service.

Pastors it is time for you to take back the power and the mantle God empowered  and endowed you with. We can no longer allow these watered down teachings to substitute for the power of God’s word. If he didn’t teach it then you don’t need to preach it.

We can no longer call ourselves a part of the body of Christ and sanction false teachings. The Bible has 54 scriptures that warn against false teachings. Some of them are as follows:

2 Peter 2:1-3

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Matthew 7:15-20

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. …

1 Timothy 4:1-5

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

2 John 1:7-11

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

1 Timothy 6:20-21

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge,” for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. Grace be with you.

2 Timothy 4:3

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

These scriptures warn us of false teachings and false prophets. They warn us against giving credence to their false teachings. These scriptures encourage, no implore us to be vigilante. That being said we can no longer allow ourselves to sit in the pews of those that would have us to believe falsely.

Hosea 4:6

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Do not allow yourself to sit in a place that preaches the acceptance of homosexuality or same sex marriage.  Leviticus 18:22, Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Do not allow yourself to sit in a place that preaches the acceptance of pedophilia or prostitution. Leviticus 19:29, Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.

Do not allow yourself to sit in a place that preaches, teaches, and practices every sin known to man and them some. When there are more pimps and hoes in the pews and the pulpit leave it is not a house of God. We need to clean house. Pastors are not there to preach to fill the offerings. If your church is surrounded by drugs, pimps, hoes, gangs, and more and your only interaction is driving by on the way in the building you are missing the mark. If those that profess to know and follow Christ allow all that is wrong to go unchecked they have failed. As a matter of fact the failure of the Church is a big part of the problem with our society today. We are to bring the principles we hear about on Sunday into our communities. We are the last line of defense. We are the ones who are supposed to be the constant moral compass that keeps things moving forward. We are supposed to engage our communities both spiritually and civically. And yes, we are supposed to also hold our elected officials accountable. It is our jobs to engage in our communities enough to at least make sure to the best of our abilities our elected officials actually represent us in our values and beliefs. When we don’t we allow things we know are not of God to become the law of the land. An ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure. Do your jobs. Stand up for what you know to be correct. Let no one regardless of the size of their check mislead those you have a mandate to Shepard!
